Social Media Marketing Manager
About Us
Shock the System Foundation is a nonprofit technology startup built on a simple belief: communities are worth investing in, and technology should make it easier to act on that. We build tools that help people get off their phones and back into the real world — connecting neighbors, supporting local action, and putting people at the center of the causes they care about. We welcome applicants of all backgrounds, perspectives, and lived experiences
Why This Role
Our audience is growing, and everything we put into the world now reaches more people than ever. Social is where most of them meet us first. This role owns that first impression across every platform, turning a scattered posting schedule into a clear, consistent, and genuinely engaging presence that grows our community and gets people off their screens and into the good stuff happening around them.
About the Role
The Social Media Marketing Manager owns our social presence end to end, roughly three to five accounts across our product ecosystem. This is a hands-on role: you set the strategy alongside our brand strategist, run the content calendar, write copy when it's needed, design assets when it's needed, and pull finished content from our video team, then get it all out the door on the right platform at the right time, every time. You're the one person who can see the whole calendar and touch every part of it.
We're honest that this is a rare combination. We're looking for someone who is equal parts strategist and operator, and who wants ownership over both the creative work and the results it drives.
Key Responsibilities
Strategy & Organic Growth
- Build and own a cohesive social strategy across platforms, in partnership with our brand strategist
- Translate brand and campaign goals into a content calendar planned well in advance
- Make creative, data-informed calls that grow followers and engagement over time
Content Creation & Design
- Design social-ready assets in tools like Photoshop, Canva, and Figma, working within established brand systems
- Write clear, on-voice copy for posts and captions when needed
- Collect and package finished content from our video teams for publishing
Publishing & Calendar Management
- Own the calendar end to end: plan it, fill it, and keep every account moving
- Schedule and publish across multiple platforms
- Hold a consistent posting cadence with no drop in quality or detail, and make sure nothing ships rushed
- Familiar with using tools like Publer, Sprout, Hootsuite, etc
- Strong editorial judgment: you know when to make the hard call on what ships, what waits, and what dies in drafts
Cross-Team Collaboration
- Work hand in hand with our marketing team to bring content to life
- Collaborate across teams and brands to keep voice and visuals consistent everywhere
- Serve as the connective tissue between strategy, creative, and what actually ships
Analytics & Reporting
- Deliver monthly performance reports across platforms
- Turn data into real, actionable insights, then turn those insights into creative decisions
- Spot what's working, double down, and course-correct quickly
- A sixth sense for trends: you spot what's coming before it peaks and know when to jump in (and when not to)
Platforms: Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Bluesky, Substack, YouTube, and LinkedIn.
What Success Looks Like
- Every account has a consistent, on-brand presence, with nothing slipping through the cracks
- Follower count and engagement grow steadily through deliberate, data-informed strategy
- Content ships on time, on-brand, and error-free, even at high volume
- You own outcomes, not just output: when the numbers move, it's because of calls you made
- Our creative team has a clear, organized partner who keeps work moving
- Leadership trusts that the brand is protected and growing as our reach expands
Qualifications
- Proven experience managing multiple social accounts, ideally across several brands
- Design skills required: comfortable producing polished social assets in Photoshop, Canva, and Figma
- Strong writing instincts; able to draft on-voice copy without a copywriter on every post
- Exceptional organization and attention to detail; you catch what others miss
- Creative problem solver who takes real ownership over creative work and results
- Strong strategic instincts paired with the discipline to plan and execute in advance
- Comfortable scheduling high volumes of content across multiple platforms
- Strong analytical skills: well versed in social analytics, able to turn data into actionable insights and confident making creative decisions from it
- Video editing skills are a strong plus
Compensation & Benefits
$85,000 to $110,000, depending on experience.
